以前から気になっていた映像作家の出光真子さん。その出光真子さんが、少女時代から、今年になって決着をみた名誉毀損の裁判にいたる、女性としての、映像作家としての自らの歩みをつづった自分史だ。

手にとって、書店を出て、電車で一ページ目を開いてから、一気に読んでしまった。軽くて、読みやすいからではない。重量感があり、目が離せなかったからだ。彼女のアーティストとしての冷徹な視点や感性に震え上がりながら、「主婦」が乏しい時間とお金をやりくりしてモノを作っていくすさまじさに唖然としながら、妙なところで出てくる彼女の女らしさを訝しがりながら、ひたすら最後のページまで来てしまった。

モノを作るってこんなに大変なことか、そして、女がそれをするということにこんなに障害があるとは（コドモがいて、夫がいて、家事があって）・・・と思いながら、読みすすまずにはいられない。また、まわりの様々なアーティスト（前夫サム・フランシスやイサム・ノグチ）、作家（ヘンリー・ミラー、アナイス・ニン）たちのスケッチが、出光真子本人の生きざまや創作活動を照らし出す読み物としてのおもしろさもある。

映像作家もしくは作家・出光にとりついた表現する欲望の底知れぬ深さに、読む自分までもが引き込まれた。久々の、時間が止まったような読書経験を得た。
